Irene Marie Rex

Irene was born on November 6, 1922 in St. Francis, Kansas and was the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Schlepp) Walter.

She grew up and attended school in Kansas. She later moved to Oregon and on November 4, 1943, she married Gene C. Rex in Pleasant Home, Oregon. He preceded her in death in 1968.

Irene worked at a bowling alley and later as a clerk at a thrift store in SE Portland. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling around in her VW Bug.

She is survived by her children: Jerry Rex of Chandler, AZ, Sue O’Dierno of Wilsonville and Steve Rex of Spanaway, Washington, brothers: Willard Walter, Herman (Junior) Walter, Clarence Walter and sisters: Delphine Bennett, Norma Walter and Jean Holboke along with 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her husband, Gene and sisters: Bernice and Violet: and brother Chester Walter all preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 am also at Bateman Carroll. A committal service will follow at Willamette National Cemetery. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
