

Gresham resident Joan Teresa Brady passed away on January 5, 2011. She was 79. A Recitation of the Rosary will be at 3:30 pm on Monday, January 10 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, January 11 at St. Henry Catholic Church (viewing will be prior to service, beginning at 9:30). Burial will take place at (NAME) Cemetery in Long Beach, California.
Joan was born November 3, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to John and Catherine (Walsh) Ryan. She graduated from high school and attended nursing school. Joan did clerical work for Collins Radio until she moved to Chicago in 1973 and did clerical work for an imports/exports company. It was in Chicago that she met Jack Brady and they were married in 1976. Joan and Jack moved to Long Beach, California where they resided until Jack’s passing in 1996. Joan moved to Gresham to live closer to her family.
Joan loved dance and the theatre. She enjoyed going to the ballet, the theater and watching musicals. Joan liked travelling and was part of a senior’s organization that would hold history classes, followed by field trips to the places they learned about. Joan loved going for walks and she loved dogs. She had the pleasure of taking her dog, Jasmine, for a walk the day before she passed. Most of all, Joan loved children and her family. She was always surrounded by family and loved ones. Playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was always a highlight for her. She is loved dearly by her family.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Janzam of Gresham, OR; Susan McDonald and her husband, Doug of Gresham, OR; Patty Sanders and her husband, Carl of Chicago, IL; Karen Kristak and her husband, Eddie of Chicago, IL; son, Mike Brady and his wife, Marlene of Chicago, IL; 8 grandchildren, Sarah Ostermiller; Greg Sanders; Sean Sanders, Ryan Sanders and his wife, Cassie; Kyle Kristak; Maggie Kristak; Austin Brady; and Kendra Brady; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Kellogg, and Siena Sanders.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the Diabetes Foundation.
