

Former Gresham resident Margaret Cushing Weil, 73 of Tualatin OR, passed away on Monday April 10, 2017. She was born on October 16, 1943 in Chico, California to Arthur and Ethel Rust. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1961, attended Portland State University and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix. Margaret married Ronald Edward Weil on January 11, 1964 in Portland, Oregon.
Margaret owned and operated Classic Woods Furniture in Gresham, Oregon from 1978 to 1985. She served on the Gresham City Council from 1980 to 1982 and became the first female Mayor of Gresham serving from 1982 to 1987. She also worked in community relations for Tri-Met and the Oregon Department of Transportation and has worked for the last 15 years as a drug and alcohol counselor for DePaul Treatment Centers. During this time she counseled many at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. Margaret was an avid reader and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. She loved animals – in particular Addy the family mutt.
Margaret is survived by her husband Ron Weil of Tualatin OR; son Devin Weil (Jennifer) of Davidson NC; daughter Gretchen Miller (Steve) of Oregon City OR and grandchildren Julianna Weil, Kylee Lawson, Sasha Weil and Max Miller.
A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made as Donations to the Oregon Humane Society.
