Marjorie Louise Klock, 95 of Portland OR, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from an ongoing bout with colon cancer. She was born in Rufus, Oregon on March 10, 1918 to Walter and Minnie Morris. She was the second of six children and graduated from Rufus High School in 1935. Her parents had a large orchard along the old Columbia River Highway on the outskirts of Rufus. Farm life and a good up-bringing helped mold Marjorie into becoming an excellent homemaker.
She met Ronald Bertram Klock and after an unknown courtship, married in 1937. They settled in The Dalles, Oregon because of Ronald’s work on the Union Pacific Railroad. Their first child, Patricia Louise was born in 1940.
In 1945 they moved to the Portland area in the Vanport development. They purchased a lot and began building a house and moved from Vanport to the basement just before the flood of 1948. They lived from room to room until the house was completed and became a home on North Montana Avenue.
In 1948 their second and last child, Douglas Morris was born. They sold the home in 1960 because of the Minnesota freeway construction, better known now as the I-5 Freeway. They purchased a mobile home and settled in a mobile park in Southeast Portland.
Their daughter Patricia married Neil Moeller in 1958 and Douglas married Reba Darlene in 1968. With the siblings out of the nest they bought a small two bedroom home in the Southeast Rockwood area of Portland. A family room and large garage/workshop was later added.
Ronald had retired from the railroad and in 2001 died from a heart attack. Marjorie always kept a clean house. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and working in her flower beds. She had continued her outdoor work through this last summer.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Moeller (Neil) of Portland OR; son Douglas Klock (Darlene) of Carson WA; grandchildren Ralph Douglas, Craig, Brian, Karl, Kimberly and Ronda; great grandchildren Michael, Amanda, Brandon, Karla, RJ, Ryan, Rachelle, Chad, Allen and Ralph Joseph and great-great grandchildren Ashley and Levi.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Sun Rise Cemetery in Wasco, Oregon. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Marjorie’s name. Arrangements entrusted to Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
