Pat was born December 15, 1933, to Clifford Valentine Smith and Lola Marie Lysinger, née Reed, in Creston, IA. She moved to San Francisco after graduating high school, where she owned a yarn shop and lived for several years. Pat lived in and had many adventures at various places throughout her life. She returned to Creston to raise her son in the mid-1970s. While living in Iowa during this time, Pat worked as a paralegal, county auditor, and was a quality control supervisor at the former Mederer Corporation plant in Creston. She also taught crafts through an Adult Education program at Southwestern Community College. She had many friends in Iowa and always cherished them. Pat chose to live in Oregon after retirement due to her special love of the region and her friends that lived there.
Pat was a multitalented crafter and an accomplished, avid quilter. Pat volunteered at Portland Adventist Community Services (PACS) for over 20 years including after she turned 90. In the latter stage of life, she was very fond of her neighbor friends and the friends she made through PACS. Pat was always a loving mother to her son and a loving godmother to her best friend’s children.
Survivors include a son, Scott Waibel of Troutdale, a grandchild, and two great-grandchildren.
