

Ray was born on February 3, 1926 in Van Hook, North Dakota and was the son of Albin and Anna (Erickson) Ryland. He attended high school in North Dakota and later moved to Washington. On January 6, 1949 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean Confilict and received an honorable discharge on September 25, 1951 at the rank of Private First Class.
He married Frances Holt on October 22, 1952 and they made there home in Portland, Oregon. Ray worked in the food industry for 45 years; 24 years as the Regional Sales Supervisor for Fisher Mills and 16 years for Hinchen Allison Associates. He was also a member of the Forester’s Association and the Elks Lodge and resided in the Portland Area for 54 years.
Ray had many hobbies. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, reading and playing with his dogs. He also enjoyed time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Frances of Portland, sons, Dennis W. Ryland of Corbett, OR and Dwayne C. Ryland of Portland, daughter, Diana Rae Ryland-Minor of Central Point, Oregon and his sister, Judy Higgins. His siblings, Victor Ryland, Evelyn Knutson, Clarence (Vernie) Ryland, John Ryland, Inez Hanson and Marlow Ryland all preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:30 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 10:00 am-5:00 pm also at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Private Entombment will be at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Ray may be made to the Diabetes Association.
