

Raymond Eugene Stickel passed away on February 4th, 2017, in Wood Village, Oregon. He was born on April 9th, 1925, in Valsetz, Oregon, to his parents: John and Katherine (Plenard) Stickel. He attended High School at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Lawrence, and ultimately, Benson High School, from which he graduated in 1943.
Ray served in the United States Navy from July 1, 1943, until his honorable discharge on February 27, 1946. He served during WWII, and his Navy Group was among one of the first to occupy Japan at the end of the war, after the surrender.
On September 1st, 1951, Ray married the love of his life, Claire Garrett. They had 57 wonderful years together, and they were married until her passing on May 18, 2008.
Ray worked as an engine rebuilder at Lomac motors for 34 years, and he retired in 1981. He loved to travel, and the highlight of his life was the two trips he took to China. He also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, baking pastries (especially chocolate eclairs), and tending to his vegetable garden, as well as the roses in front of his house.
Ray is survived by his brother, Dennis Stickel of Depoe Bay, Oregon.
A Committal Service will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2017, at 1pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham.
