

Rex was born on August 6, 1952 in Vancouver, Washington and was the son of Rex and Caroline (Helmer) Hollingsworth Sr. He grew up in Portland where he attended Rose City Grade School and Madison High School. On December 8, 1969, Rex enlisted in the United States Marine Corps honorably serving his country with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. He received an honorable discharge on September 9, 1972 at the rank of Corporal.
On February 8, 1974, he married Deborah Marie Norrish at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon. They had three children and were married for nearly 40 years. They resided in East County Portland where Rex operated the family business; Rex Heating and Air Conditioning for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Parkrose Business Association, the Rosewood Initiative and made time to volunteer with community action projects that allowed him to share his trade.
Rex was a hard worker; dedicated to his business and committed to his family. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his big heart. He enjoyed traveling to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Canada and RVing around the State with his wife.
Rex is survived by his wife, Deborah of Portland, son, Shane (wife, Deidre Bond) Hollingsworth of Damascus, daughter, Amy (husband, Chris) Caswell of Clackamas and Melissa (husband, Jay) Andrews of La Grande along with 8 grandchildren, Ashley, Madalyn, Sydney, Layton, Jackson, Vance, Cannon and Dillon. He is also survived by his sister, Jennifer Norrish of Portland, brother-in-law and best friend, Rick Norrish of Portland along with his brothers and sisters in laws, Barbara and Pete Hundahl, Russ and Wanda Norrish and Bob and Vicky Norrish along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A Reception Gathering to celebrate Rex’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 2:00 pm – 5:00
pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A Committal service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Rex to the Wound Warrior Project. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
