Richard was a successful entrepreneur, and he began his career as an arborist in Texas with Richard’s Expert Tree Care. He will always be known as one of the best live oak pruners in the area where he applied his artistic ability to develop beautifully shaped trees. The family moved to Oregon in 1997, and he started a BBQ catering and restaurant business called Authentic Texas Barbecue. It was Richard’s great determination to show Oregon what “real BBQ” was all about and he was quite successful in doing so with amazingly delicious, hard wood smoked meats- especially his award-winning briskets. He also created a special 40 ingredient BBQ Sauce that has yet to be replicated. His employees will always remember him as a caring and generous employer.
On July 10th, 1982, Richard married the love of his life, Mary Katherine Weissborn, in Houston, Texas. They were married until his passing. Together, they had three beautiful daughters.
