Russell F. Lewis, born December 12, 1920 in Bradyville, Missouri died August 18, 2011, at age 90. He was the son of Harm and Alta Lewis. Russell moved first to Yakima, Washington, and then to Oregon in 1945.
Russell served his country in the U.S. Army from October 1941, until September 1945. He served in five European Campaigns during WWII, including Northern France, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, earning the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Russell married his wife Doris (Bridgmon) on July 16th, 1947. They were married for 64 wonderful years. In that time, they had six children together. Russell loved to tease his kids, and always had a quick-witted response ready to go. He was a devoted husband and father; if something needed to be done, he would do it, including sewing little girl’s Easter dresses.
He was a truck driver, and retired teamster at the end of his life. In his younger years, Russell had worked as a milker for Meadowland Dairy, and as a chicken processor for Bridgmon Brothers. He was a member of Grace Life Fellowship in Portland.
Russell is survived and missed by his wife, Doris Lewis; children Diannia Lindermann of Portland, Linda Doyle of Portland, Russell Lewis, Jr. of Portland, Phyllis Bernard of Portland, Cecil Lewis of LaPine, and Jeannie Hall of Portland; brother Rex Lewis of Redmond; and sister Maxine Thew; as well as 18 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Hendricks.
Russell’s family will have a private burial service, but would like to encourage friends to leave a message in the online guestbook provided at batemancarrollfunerals.com.
