

Shirley Jo Sanzone, age 91, of Gresham, Oregon, passed away on July 6, 2025. Born on December 29, 1933, in Marshfield, Missouri, to Burl and Ruth Tournier, Shirley's journey through life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Shirley graduated from San Bernardino High School and furthered her education at San Bernardino Valley College. It was during her senior year of high school in 1951 that she met the love of her life, Michael Sanzone. Their love blossomed, leading to their marriage on October 4, 1952. Together, they celebrated 72 beautiful years of marriage, a testament to their deep bond and shared values.
Family was the cornerstone of Shirley's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her loved ones. Shirley and Michael raised seven children, who in turn blessed them with 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She had an extraordinary gift for remembering every birthday and special event, ensuring that each family member felt cherished and celebrated.
A woman of deep faith, Shirley was actively involved in St. Henry's Catholic Church for 37 years. Her contributions included teaching baptism classes, serving as a greeter, and leading Bible studies, with her most recent role being the head of the greeter program. Her commitment to her church community was matched only by her passion for hosting gatherings, where her talent for creating memorable experiences shone brightly, particularly during her beloved formal afternoon teas.
Shirley had a zest for life that extended beyond her family. She and Michael enjoyed boating, participating in the Christmas Ships for 13 years, where they entertained family and friends while creating lasting memories on the water. After retiring from boating, they embraced a new adventure in motor homing, exploring new places and continuing to share their love of hospitality.
Known as a decorating phenom, Shirley transformed her home with seasonal and holiday decorations, bringing joy and warmth to every occasion. Her creativity and attention to detail made every gathering special, reflecting her love for her family and her desire to create a welcoming environment.
Shirley’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Gresham, beginning with a Rosary at 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00 AM.
