Thomas Victor McCausland, 87, of Portland, passed away on August 18, 2015. He was born in Portland to Albert and Anna (Spenner) McCausland and was raised with one sister. Thomas graduated from Central Catholic High School and he joined the military shortly after graduating. He served in both the Navy and Army. Thomas married Mary Calabrese and together they raised four children. Honest, caring and generous are just a few of the many words used to describe Thomas. Professionally, Thomas was a pet supply salesman in the Portland area. He also volunteered for many years for the alcohol anonymous groups here in Portland. He has supported many people on their quest to sobriety. Thomas had many hobbies which included gardening, golf, baseball, and sharing his favorite hobby of traveling in his motor home with his wife Mary beside him. Thomas enjoyed family gatherings and being around people. At one point the McCausland house hold was known for being the “neighborhood hub.” Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; children, Thomas, Cathy, David and Maureen; sister, Helen; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Thomas will be remembered as a “quiet selfless hero” and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but leaves behind wonderful cherished memories. A memorial mass will be held at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, August 28th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., and he will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery.
