

While working for the Federal Highway Administration for 35 years, he traveled most of the Northwest states. After retiring in 1985, he returned to work at Rich and Rhine Wholesale and the Portland International Airport.
He was a charter member of the Gateway Elks, post commander for VFW Post 4053 and a member of the Multnomah Anglers. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed canoeing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma; wife of 44 years, Susan A.; and sister, Rita Davis. He leaves behind his eight children; wife of 15 years, Dorothy; her two sons; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In remembrance of this great man, a rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. with a mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1015 S.E. 182nd Ave. with a reception to follow. A private graveside service will be held in Willamette National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kaiser Permanente Hospice of Portland in his name.
