Mrs. Bessie L. Long Huckaby

Mrs. Huckaby was born December 4, 1923 in Upson County Ga. She was the daughter of the late Joe Davis Long and Bessie Mae Melton Long. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Orchard Hill. Mrs. Huckaby was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Rev. Allen Huckaby, four brothers, and four sisters.

Mrs. Huckaby was affectionately known as “Miss Bessie” by the members of the congregation of Grace Baptist Church where her husband served as pastor for thirty-two years. “Miss Bessie” had a loving spirit and was devoted to her husband’s successful ministry. She had an immense love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will always remember her sweet and powerful prayers.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Marsha Huckaby, Gary and Joy Huckaby; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Terry Killingsworth; grandchildren Selena Alvar and her husband Nestor, Alisa Huckaby and her fiancé Kurt Marsh, Kimberlee Huckaby Kilgo and her husband Freddie, Paula Huckaby Wright; great-grandchildren, Quaid Alvar, Noah Wright and Cayden Wright; special friends, Betty Jo Smith and Melba Mayes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie L. Huckaby will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 11:00AM in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. Milton Hill and Ken Buckles will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
