

Mrs. Carolyn McCollum Barnes, age 87 of Stockbridge, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Benton Village of Stockbridge. Born in Griffin on September 15, 1928 to the late Walter Byrd and Lola Banks McCollum, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her husband, George Judson Barnes, Sr. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Griffin where she, and her husband were very active with the youth department. Mrs. Barnes enjoyed her 27 years of service at Orrs Elementary. She loved the children there and affectionately referred to them as her “Buttercups”. Mrs. Barnes was a very loving, and generous person who never met a stranger. She was willing to help anyone in need, and exercised her tremendous faith in her everyday life. Survivors include her daughters, Janice Torrance (Steve) of Cheyenne, WY, Susan Aukerman (David) of Hampton; sons, Judson Barnes (Kimberly) of Thomaston, Kenny Barnes ( Lynn) of Hampton, Lance Roberts of Griffin; grandchildren, Susan Eleanor Elliott (George), George-Anna Wood (Jason), Charles William Torrance II, Ashton Roberts, Hannah Barnes, George Judson Barnes III, Andrew Judson Barnes; great-grandson, Cody Elliott; nieces, Ellen Law of Ellenwood, Kay Dial of Alpharetta; nephew, Renay McCollum of Snellville; and close friends, Linda Gilbert of Griffin, George Wilson of Locust Grove. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Westwood Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the caregivers of Benton Village of Stockbridge for their exceptional care of Mrs. Barnes.
