

Mr. Hammock was born in Locust Grove, Georgia, on February 24, 1934, to the late James Madison Hammock and Belle Rosser Hammock.
Mr. Hammock is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail Manley Hammock; his sons and daughters-in-law Chuck and Michelle Hammock of Macon and Chris and Amy Hammock of Senoia. His grandchildren are Erin and C.J. Hammock of Macon and William, Sarah, and Andrew Hammock of Senoia. He is survived by the following siblings and their spouses: Ray and Alice Hammock of Lithonia, Jo Dailey of McDonough, Jeff Hammock of Macon, Jane and Don Pye of Locust Grove, and Dennis and Dianne Hammock of McDonough. His sisters and brother-in-law are Taylor and Anne Manley of Griffin and Jane and Doug Wheeless of Brevard, N.C. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hammock graduated from McDonough High School in 1952 and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS ST. Paul from 1953-1957. He attended Gordon College and received his AB degree from Georgia State College in business management in 1963. He was associated with Blake Builders Supply in management and outside sales for 38 years. Mr. Hammock was General Griffin in 2009, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Griffin for 50 years, and served in many leadership roles at First Baptist Church of Griffin including life deacon, XYZ, and the Bolton Sunday School Class. He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 VFW, the Men’s Prayer Group, Elks Lodge 1207, Jackson Lake Homeowners Association, and the Chamber of Commerce. The volunteer ministries in which he served in recent years were the Furniture Ministry at FBC, Habitat for Humanity, Abundant Life Soup Kitchen, Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry, Disaster Response, the Levite Ministry, Operation Helping Hand, and Griffin One Day.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Manley Cemetery, 2030 North McDonough Road, Griffin, GA 30223. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. in Wednesday, April 4, 2012.
It was Mr. Hammock’s request that in lieu of flowers those who wish make donations to the Furniture Ministry at First Baptist Church, 106 W. Taylor St., Griffin, GA 30224, Abundant Life Soup Kitchen, 1407 MacArthur Dr., Griffin, GA 30224 or Habitat for Humanity-Griffin Chapter, 1386 Carver Road, Griffin, GA 30224.
