Mrs. Eleanor Brisendine Brisendine Newman

Eleanor Alice Brisendine Newman, 93, daughter of the late James Monroe Brisendine and Effie Vera Thomas Brisendine, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at The Cottages of Brushy Creek in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Newman was born June 6, 1916 in Griffin, GA. She graduated from Griffin High School, attended West Georgia College and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. On September 20, 1941, she married her beloved husband Earle Sydney Newman who predeceased her in 2003. She worked for The Department of the Army during WWII and again in the 1960’s, both times in Washington, DC. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Griffin. Prior to moving back to Griffin in 1985, she was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda N. Albright and her husband Robert W. Albright of Greenville, SC; a son, Earle S. Newman and his wife Belynda D. Newman and two grandchildren, Marissa Sydney Newman and Jason Earle Newman, of Manhattan Beach, CA., and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Newman will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the new section of Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Bill Hardee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Benevolence Fund, First Baptist Church, 106 W. Taylor St., Griffin, GA 30224 in memory of Mrs. Newman.

Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Rd., is in charge of arrangements.
