

He was born in Atlanta, GA on June 28, 1925 to the late Dr. Jackson Wiley Landham and Belle Moon Landham. Dr. Landham attended North Avenue Presbyterian School, the Atlanta public schools and graduated from North Fulton High School where he was active in the R.O.T.C. and in the Boy Scouts of America. He continued his education at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the Phi Chi medical fraternity. During World War II, he was a member of the Navy V-12 S program. He received both a Bachelor of Science and MD degree in 1947 and continued post-graduate medical training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL and the VA Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
During the Korean War, Dr. Landham served in the Medical Corps of the United States Army and was assigned to Germany. While in Germany he was selected to attend the first International Congress of Cardiology and the first International Congress of Internal Medicine both held in London in 1952. For two years Dr. Landham was in a group practice of Cardiology in Orlando, FL. In 1955, he moved to Griffin and opened an office for the practice of Internal Medicine. He was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and was a member of the American College of Physicians, and a charter member of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Internal Medicine. He was also a member of the AMA, Southern Medical Association of Georgia, Spalding County Medical Society and the Fourth District Medical Association. He served as president of the Medical Staff of the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital for two terms and as president of the Spalding County Medical Society.
Dr. Landham was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin, GA; The Rotary Club of Griffin and a former member of the Griffin Country Club. He served as Secretary of the Rotary Club for two years and as President in 1963-64. He was also active in the Georgia Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and, for several years, was Commander of the Griffin Composite Squadron of the CAP.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Margaret McManus Landham and their four children and spouses; daughter, Susan Landham Carson and her husband Steve Carson of Concord, GA; three sons Jackson Wiley Landham, III and his wife, Lila Norman Landham of Griffin, Robert Broughton Landham and his wife, Cindy Norwood Landham of Hendersonville, TN, James Mettauer Landham of Hagerstown, MD; eight grandchildren, Jackson Wiley Landham, IV and his wife, Sheryl, Lydia Landham, Elizabeth Carson Sydell and her husband, Jarrett, Cathi Carson Johnson and her husband, Russ, Katie Landham, Emily Landham, J Landham and Robert Wiley Landham; seven great-grandchildren; many cousins and sister-in-law, Ms. Sue McManus of Penney Farms, FL.
Funeral Services for Dr. Jackson Wiley Landham, Jr. will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Griffin.
Rev. Bruce Martin and Rev. Brian McCartney will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time in the church parlor. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the First Baptist Church of Griffin Building Fund, the Benevolence Fund, or to the Boy Scouts of America in memory of Dr. Landham.
