Mr. Baird was born August 22, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. After many years in Illinois and his love for the airline industry he relocated to Georgia to accept a position with Eastern Airlines. He worked at Eastern for 25 Years where he was awarded a 25 year service pin and certificate. While in Georgia, he met a wonderful woman on a blind date in her living room, named Lucille Martin. Forty-one years, two sons, and five grandchildren later you can see where his legacy will carry one.
James was an avid bowler and was surrounded by his many bowling accomplishments. There was no place in the house that you would not see a bowling trophy. James was a huge football fan, his favorite teams included the Chicago Bears Atlanta Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs, and the Griffin Bears. You could see him every Friday night cheering the Bears to victory with his green and gold bell. He loved Gospel music and always had the Gaithers playing in his living room. In his spare time, he kept up with the news, weather in Chicago, and scores and rosters of every team up and down the East Coast. The family has a lifetime of stories to share about his life and times in Chicago. We were honored to have James, “Daddy and Paw Paw”, as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Lucille Baird; children and their spouses, Tracey and Amanda Baird and Jimmy and Heather Baird; grandchildren, Chris Baird, Samantha McConnell, Brittany Walker, Taylor Baird, and Nick Ring; sister, Mary Lou Baird.
