

Mr. Howell was born November 25, 1911 to the late Maggie Lee Pierce Howell and the late Walter Lee Howell, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Fowler Howell; daughter, Mattie Nell Howell Dunn; two sisters, Frances Fowler and Marcie Yarbrough; 5 brothers, Terrell, Emmett, C.M., Elbert and Walter Jr. Howell.
Mr. Howell was a dedicated Christian who enjoyed sharing the Bible with family, friends and shut-ins. His passion was visiting the nursing homes and holding Bible studies in homes of shut-ins. He was a horticulturist by profession and an avid gardener.
Survivors include his daughters, Estoria Cole of FL, Mae Ewald and her husband Rollin of TN, Mary Chitester and her husband Les of AL; 7 grandchildren, Julie Garner, Ava Davis, Donna Knauss, Dennis Guess, Melody Henderson, Jill Sanders and Jennifer Noel; 5 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Magalene Snow of Griffin and Gertrude Barlow of McDonough and several nieces, nephews and many friends of St. George’s Court.
Funeral services for Mr. Lonnie James Howell will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Westwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
