
She was born in Searcy, Arkansas, on June 25, 1923, to the late Edwin Allen Robbins and Mary Pickens Benson Robbins. She graduated from Searcy High School and attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri. In 1944 she married Charles Myrrel “Bill” Hilger and spent thirty years as the quintessential Air Force officer’s wife. She moved to Griffin following Bill’s death in 1993. She was a member of Griffin First United Methodist Church and served on the Flower Committee for many years.
Marianne is survived by her children, Anne and Taylor Manley and Rob Hilger of Griffin; by her grandchildren, Trey and Stephanie Manley and Travis Hilger also of Griffin, and Mary Patrick and Nathan Moorefield and Robbins Manley of Breckenridge, Colorado; by her four great granddaughters, Raynor and Elle Manley, Taylor Katherine and Anna Charles Moorefield. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Jean Robbins of Russellville, Arkansas, and Benson and Betty Robbins of Searcy, Arkansas, and her brother-in-law Phil Pyeatt of Searcy, Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Jean Lowry, Linda Sparrow, Carla Gossett, Kelli Avery and Barbara Mason and the staff of Brightmoor Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013. Dr. Med Roach and Rev. Jack Landham will officiate. The family will greet guests in the narthex immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church Amick Fund, Stepping Stones, or Griffin-Spalding County Historical Society.
