

Mr. Jones was born July 16, 1923 in Augusta, GA to the late Charles E. Jones and the late Marcena Lipe Jones, he moved to Griffin as a young child and remained here throughout his life. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Griffin High, class of ’40, and of North Georgia College, and attended the University of Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European theater. Returning to Griffin, he joined the family construction business. Later he was the owner of Concrete and Building Supply Company and of M and B Rentals. Mr. Jones was an active member of the Exchange Club, the Elks Club, and served several years with the local Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Jones was a member of the First Christian Church. He was married to the former Betty Fears of Hampton, GA, his “Boopsie.” They were married for nearly 54 years and shared a deep love and devotion. He was committed to his family and friends. To be with him was to enjoy laughter. He brought out the good humor in everyone who knew him. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his brothers and sister, Charles E. Jones, Jr., Alyn R. Jones, and Margaret Foust; and his infant granddaughter Katherine Sterne.
Survivors include daughter & son-in-law, Beth Jones & Steve Sterne of Alexandria, VA; sons & daughters-in-law, Bill, Sr. & Ann Jones of Griffin, Bruce & Missy Jones of Macon; grandchildren, Stephen, Jr. & Krystina Sterne, Mariana Sterne & Milton bell, Anne Jones & Michael Esary, Bill, Jr. & Abby York Jones, Betsy Jones & Christopher Jones; great-grandchildren, Jones Esary and Bill Jones, III.

The celebration of life for Mr. Marion A. Jones will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Van Landingham will officiate. A private entombment will be in the Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home and again on Monday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
