

Mrs. Calvert was born February 25, 1931 in Crenshaw Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Myrtle Crook and Edward Wesley Barber. She graduated from Memphis Technical High School in 1949 , and then attended secretarial school in Memphis, TN. She worked at Goldsmith's Dept. Store and later Stratton Warren Hardware in the accounting office. On January 30, 1959 she married Thomas Pickard Calvert , and in 1966 they moved to Griffin, GA. Mrs. Calvert worked for the Griffin Spalding Regional Hospital and later was owner of AAA Services. She joined First Baptist Church in 1971 and was a member of the Magna Sunday School Class. She was an avid Atlanta Falcons fan and enjoyed watching professional golf. She loved spending time with family and friends and was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren. Mrs. Calvert was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pickard Calvert. Sisters, Martha Barber Forbes, Nannerl Barber and brother Victor Salathial Barber. Granddaughter, Charlotte Ann Calvert. Survivors include her children, Phillip Pickard Calvert of Baltimore, MD; Karol Calvert Sullins and her husband Robert of Griffin; Nancy Calvert Massey and her husband Scott of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Step children, Thomas Scott Calvert and his wife Janelle of Atlanta, Janie Calvert Smith and her husband Billy Ray of Crowder, MS; Susan Calvert Elliott and her husband Gary of Crowder, MS; Debbie Calvert Smith and her husband Randy of Olive Branch, MS. Grandchildren, Lauren Sullins Ralls and her husband Robert of Atlanta; Jackson Walker Sullins of Griffin, Hanks Calvert Massey and Davis Williams Massey of Ponte Vedra Beach,FL; Clint Calvert, Reagan Calvert Weeks; William Scott Smith, Whitney Smith McCurdy; Adam Elliott, Ashley Elliott Alexander, Andi Beck Elliott; Tiffnie Smith Apodaca and Kent Vassar Smith. Services for Peggy Jean Barber Calvert will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Griffin. A private family graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Griffin or the charity of your choice.
