
He was born August 23, 1928 in Griffin, GA. He was the son of Dr. Augustus Frye and Charlotte Frye, also of Griffin. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Dr. Augustus Frye, Jr. and sister, Barbara Frye Hothorn.
Warren is survived by his wife, Pat Frye, his children Sam Frye and Darryl Frye, grandchildren Branson, Susan (Joe), Michael (Samantha) and DeSean, great grandchildren Ren, Kendall Rose and Grace and cousins Thornton Willingham and Liz Sanders (Dave). Warren was blessed to call Pat’s children Jim (Kim), Angie (Kendrew), Robyn (Kenny), and grandchildren Austin, Elizabeth, Katherine, Evalyn, Alton and Amelia his own as well. Ann Hickman served as his additional caregiver.
Warren graduated in 1950 from the University of Georgia with a degree in Business Administration. He, also, self-taught himself to weld and took classes for certification. His career started in sales where he worked for Industrial Wholesale in Griffin and continued in Jacksonville, FL. In 1962 he began his career in welding. He worked as a welding instructor for Lockheed-Georgia Company training and qualifying employees and served as a coordinator between the engineering and air force quality control departments. As part of a federal grant program in 1974, Warren became a welding instructor at the Occupational Education Center for DeKalb County School System. When this program was discontinued, he served as a welding advisor and contractor for Marriott, Ramada, Southern Railway and Georgia Pacific. Warren went back to the Occupational Education Center from 1982-1992 serving as welding, sheet metal and machine shop instructor. He assisted students in finding employment after graduation. He worked part time as a welder and car repairman for Georgia Building Authority and the New Georgia Railroad. Warren worked for World Imports in Atlanta from 1998-2002 building and repairing chandeliers. He retired in 2002. Warren’s love of all things train started in childhood. He loved listening to the trains coming through town at all hours. He not only was an avid train historian, but actually began restoration of the “#1 Steam Engine”, a steam locomotive starting in 1974 and continuing until 2007. He and Pat visited many train museums and rail systems.
Graveside funeral services for Samuel Warren Frye will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
