Ann Margaret Guibord passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025 having lived 88 blessed years. Ann was born on January 21, 1937 in Detroit to Edward and Eileen Hebert. She grew up on Fordham, a member of St. Jude’s Parish and was proud of her eastside Detroit roots. Later in life, she belonged to St. Peter’s in Harper Woods and was happy to call Grosse Pointe Woods home for 29 years before moving to Clinton Township in retirement. During that time, she made St. Louis in Clinton Township her church home.
Ann was the loving wife of the late Thomas. They enjoyed 49 beautiful years of marriage surrounded by the love of family and friends. Ann was the loving mother of John and thought of her daughter-in-law Michelle as the daughter she never had. Her greatest gift in life were her grandchildren Sean and Beatrice. She was incredibly proud of them and would brag to anyone who would listen. Ann is survived by her brother, Terry (the late Alice) Hebert, many loving nieces and nephews, and her Goddaughter Tammy Hebert and Godson Tom Norton. She was blessed with many friends, especially her dear friend of 80 years, Nancy Hathaway, who she met early in elementary school. Ann was grateful for the friendship and tremendous help that many gave to her after Tom’s passing. She always credited these friends (you all know who you are) with being able to live “independently” for as long as she did.
In addition to her Catholic faith, education was one of the cornerstones of her life. After graduating from Dominican High School, she received her B.A. from University of Detroit and her M.A. from University of Michigan (with a little help from “the Sallys.”) Ann loved reading, but even more loved teaching children to read. After a few years teaching in elementary school, she transitioned from the classroom to tutoring from her basement to be at home with her son John. She was so proud of the many students who came through her home, and throughout the years formed lasting friendships with both the students and their parents. Ann was honored to be a member of Delta Kappa Gamma (a professional society for women educators.)
As a new mother, Ann enjoyed being on bowling leagues and arranging playdates for John with other mom friends. Later in life, she had her own playdates with swim friends, her pinochle group, and the poker club. In 1984, Ann was “awarded” a special plaque by her son recognizing her as the “Master of the Telephone.” Whether it was on the phone or not, Ann loved to talk and could do so easily with anyone in any situation, from catching up with her closest confidants to chatting up a stranger during a long plane flight.
Together with her husband Tom, Ann loved entertaining, attending plays with friends, and traveling the world, from Caseville to Australia and everywhere in between. They were a bit competitive when playing Scrabble or winning your nickels in the card game “65”, but the winner wasn’t as important during UNO games with Sean and Bea.
Ann held many different titles throughout her life – daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. But what wasn’t different was the incredible love, joy and genuine concern she showed for everyone she met. We will miss Ann dearly, but are consoled by the fact that her lifetime of faith is rewarded as she returns to the Lord.
A visitation for Ann will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 from 3:00–8:00 p.m. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. She will be In State at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. She will be interred next to her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen or a charity close to your heart.
