Loving and devoted husband of 65 years to Patricia "Pat" Marino, he is also survived by his children Mark (Terri), Mary Beth (Greg) Morris, and Patti; granddaughters Emily and McKenna; sister-in-law Dale Mein; and many nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents James and Tillie Marino, brother James, and sister Rosalie Halkey.
Tony was born May 25, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan and grew up on Holcomb Avenue. A graduate of Cass Tech High School, he studied architecture at the University of Detroit. It was on the bus to class where he caught the eye of Pat Mein who attended Marygrove College just one mile down the road. Pat, determined to catch his eye as well, studied late at school to be sure she was on the same bus that Tony took home. Pat’s plan worked, and they soon fell in love and were married in 1959 and spent 65 wonderful years of marriage together until the Lord called Tony home.
Tony spent his career working from the Michigan Building in downtown Detroit with his friend and colleague, the late Frank Klaetke, at their firm, Klaetke & Marino Architects. With many successful years doing commercial industrial architecture, the results of his work, including several UAW and Gleaners locations, will live scattered across metro Detroit for many years to come.
Tony was a dedicated family man, caring for his “bride” (which he often affectionately called her) and raising his children in their home in St. Clair Shores. Tony was an active, devout Catholic, serving as an usher until he joined Pat in the church choir. He was selfless with his time, volunteering as a Boy Scout leader and serving his community as a member of the West Shores Homeowner’s Association. Tony’s passions included the DABL Bowling League, working in the yard, and fishing or bowling as much as possible with his lifelong friend, the late Ken Kraft. His home away from home was a simple and peaceful summer cottage on Carp Lake, Michigan, where he loved to fish, draw and paint with watercolors.
