
Anthony Petrilli, M.D., 81 died on 04/26/2022. He was born on July 27, 1941 in Detroit. Tony graduated from Livonia Bentley High School as a member of the class of 1959. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963 via a Regent’s Alumni Scholarship and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Tony went on to graduate from Wayne State University, School of Medicine in 1967.
Tony had a long career as a Neuropsychiatrist at St. John-Macomb Hospital, Harper-Grace Hosptials, Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center, BonSecours Hospital, Cottage Hospital, Macomb Hospital Center and Detroit Riverview Hospital. When he passed he was the Chief of Neuropsychiatric Progam and Medical Director of Neuropsychiatric Partial Day Program at St. John-Macomb Hospital in Warren.
Tony enjoyed teaching and taught at Wayne State University Medical School in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was honored as with several teaching awards including “The Outstanding Clinical Faculty Teaching Physician” by the Wayne State University Medical Class of 1983 and received “The Lamp of Teaching Award” as the Outstanding Basic Scientist and Teacher by the graduating class of 1975.
Tony had a passion for his work. He was the definition of a workaholic. He loved his patients and teaching and mentoring his medical students. His long time staff was his second family.
Outside of the office Tony was a fan of University of Michigan Football, Detroit Tiger baseball, reading, music, cheap wine, swearing, video poker and Lake St. Clair. Tony is survived by sons; John and Greg (Becky) and granddaughters Caroline and Sara. Tony married Janet King and though later divorced remained cordial.
A reception will be held at AH Peters Funeral Home (20705 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods) on May 7th from 12pm to 4pm. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:
