Anthony Petrilli was the love of my life. He will never be forgotten.

I may not have met you at my brother's memorial service, but I did 
 attend the memorial with my daughter, Kristynn and my oldest grandson, Ben, who flew in from Denver, and my youngest grandson, Sam, who drove to Michigan from Notre Dame and then back to Colorado for the summer break.  They were determined to to be there to honor him.  Unfortunately my daughter, Autumn could not attend because of untimely work commitments and my granddaughter, Claire, was finishing up study abroad.

It has been seven months since my brother's passing and I think of him everyday.  He was a caring uncle to my daughters,  Autumn and Kristynn, encouraging them to go away to college and supporting them emotionally and financially through the years.  Kristynn was honored to have him join her wedding party and walk her down the aisle, when she got married in Peurta Villarta in 1998.   

No matter how busy, or late at night it was, my brother would always take the time to call and wish me a happy birthday and ask me about how work was going and did I, or the girls, need anything.  Always there for me.

He loved Sinatra and loved to get up and swing to Jimmy Darin,  Mack the Knife,  no matter where he was.  
He loved "his boys", they were the most important thing in his life.
He loved his work, his patients, his devoted and caring staff, Donna, Joelle, Sue, and all of the other staff that ran his Day Program, as well as, Sharon Michaels, his devoted personal secretary and trusted friend of many years.

Tony supported my move to Fort Collins, Colorado, to be close to  my daughters and he actually took time off from his work to come and spend some time with us and meet my grandkids.  His visits were always crazy fun filled times.  He told everyone, after his first visit,  that " it was the most fun vacation" that he had ever taken.  

Sad that I didn't get to hug you goodbye Ton, but will make up for it when I get up there.

I'm so heartbroken to learn of Dr. Petrilli's passing. I had lost faith and had started to fear doctors, then I met Dr. Petrilli.  He saved my life, by no means exaggeration, and helped me to understand my diagnosis', meds, treatments, he was more than just a doctor in the way he treated me. He cared deeply and made me laugh during the hardest time of my life. 
He wanted his patients educated and to understand. He made sure I felt heard and that I got better. Thank you for saving my life, Doc. 

It is a tragedy to lose Dr. Petrilli so abruptly.  He was a true scholar of psychiatry and his expertise in Traumatic Brain Injury was unparalleled. 
It filled his soul to be a clinician, treating and educating patients and their families about their condition.  As a colleague, he enthusiastically shared his vast knowledge when teaching others.
What made him so distinctive to patients and friends was his larger than life dynamic presence, kindness and empathic generosity.  Nobody embodied La Dolce Vita quite like Tony. Hope your hobnobbing with Sinatra, Mickey Mantle and lots of beautiful women in the spirit world. God bless.

The world just lost a fine man and caring physician. Tony and I were both huge Michigan fans and would attend 1 game every year. RIP my dear friend.

Dr. Petrilli was one of the most generous and hardworking people we have met. His care was second to none. He was easy to talk to and gave great advice. A couple of years ago he sent me a piece of paper that I have hanging to this day which says in big capital letters, “you are only as happy as your least happy child.” Thank you for everything Dr. Petrilli and our thoughts and prayers go out to your sons and granddaughters.

I first met Dr. Petrelli in the 1970s when he was a psychiatric resident at Lafayette Clinic in Detroit.  He was an exceptional doctor/ psychiatrist from the start of his career.  He showed compassion for his patients and always treated his coworkers with respect.   He installed his sense of responsibility in students he supervised and built a reputation based on trust and empathy for all. He was one of a kind!  I am grateful to have shared some of his time and space.  God bless!


Dr. Petrilli was one of my earliest mentors and preceptors during my medical training. He taught us how to be excellent professionals and to always do good for society. He always had a sense of humor and treated all his patients with the utmost respect and empathy. As he would say, "if you don't know what to talk about with people, ask them about their kids/grandkids!" Dr. Petrilli went above and beyond for all his patients and his staff with anything they needed. I will always be grateful for the mentorship.

In my eyes he a god sent and took such good care of me.
He has helped me and my family for years , 
I have so many memories, and he will be in my heart always. I’ll so miss him.
Years ago I came in and I told him my husband was mad at me, he first says oh I’m sure not. I said he got two great tickets to red wings and Colorado (when red wings where good) and I lost them. 
He laughs and says we’ll I’d be upset to and we laughed . Great sense of humor

And will so be missed but remembered always in my heart

I am heartbroken as I write this but I wanted all to know what a caring and compassionate boss I have had the privilege to work for over the last 50 years.  He was always there for me and my family whenever needed.  He never once, in all of the many years, complained about my work or criticized it and when I was off for three months due to a car accident and I asked him to please find someone else to help him, he just laughed.  He loved his work and his sons more than anything.   I have lost a great boss who became family and a great friend.  He will always be remembered with the fondest of memories and love.

Dr. Anthony Petrilli you will truly be missed. You were such a sweet hard working good hearted man. Thank you for being apart of our family for 30 years. Words cant express how greatful I am for all your love & support . It's been an honor to work with you. You were truly a blessing to our family & will be missed dearly . Until we meet again tiger. Very few people  can single-handedly help so many individuals as Dr. Petrilli has.  He dedicated his life to helping others cope with either a physical and or mental loss.   He also made sure his patients were surrounded by the best staff around, Donna, JoEllen, Denise, Sue and others just to name a few.   

He grew up in Detroit and worked hard to achieve his degrees and expertise.    He had a great moral compass and followed his own conclusions based on his expertise and experience  rather than following a cookie cutter guideline from the CDC or WHO, etc. .     He was his own man and treated everyone different for the best outcome.  

He was a patient advocate and didn't give a darn about telling patients which doctors or services were not looking out for their  best interest!

All of us visiting his office remember the stacks of research he had surrounding his desk.  He read and researched the latest and greatest new medical developments from truthful proven sources publications, rather than adhering to the pop culture of censored controlled Internet articles.  By the way, he remembered the location of any article he stashed away, no computer necessary for this man!  

He had a love for sports, Mad Magazine,  sense of humor and writing  journals.   He talked sbout possibly publishing a book on TBI.  He mentioned his family and had photos of his cute grandkids in his office.  Did you know once he  anonymously helped pay for one of his patient's funerals because the family had next to no income? 

My wife and I are both are contributing to this.  She is having a hard time like all reading this for this loss.   Let us remember the positive and good times with him which will help us cope.  Now it is our time to be "Petriili strong" like he would want us to be and support his staff the best we can during their loss and transitions. We will leave our reputation like he did, but we will see him again John 3:16  Mike and Deb Dettling

Our family first met Dr. Petrilli in 1981. Over the years he has helped several family members through illness and bouts of depression. Dr. Petrilli was a dedicated and knowledgeable doctor, we knew we were in good hands.  More importantly, we came to know his caring and empathetic nature, sometimes to a fault. I truly thank God for this wonderful man, doctor and friend and the impact he had on our lives.  I'm sure he will be missed by many
