

Arthur A. Briesch, age 87 died peacefully on February 1, 2010 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Arthur was born on July 4, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Arthur and Loretta Briesch. After graduation from high school, Arthur served in the United States Army as a lathe operator during World War II. Arthur married Mary Balok at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Detroit. They were married 65 years before her death in 2007. He was a 60 year resident of Harper Woods. His employment began at the Hudson Motor Car Company in Detroit. In 1955 he began a career of 30 years at the Stroh Brewery in Detroit where he was a bottler and later a union steward. Mr. Briesch was a family oriented man. His weekends off and vacations were always geared around his family's activities. He enjoyed bowling and outings to the casinos. Arthur was a member of the American Legion Stroh's Post #490. Arthur is survived by his children: Arthur Jr. (Christina), Patricia Russo (Emmanuel), Marlene Manzo (Gary), Steven (Donna); nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and sisters Marion Scherz and Corrine Hendershot. He was predeceased by his wife Mary and son Gary. His funeral service will be at 10 am Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation 3-9 pm Thursday.
