

Barbara Joyce Richardson Grosse Pointe Farms resident Barbara Joyce Richardson, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014. She was born in Escanaba to Madge and Olaf Trytten, grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1948. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan, where she met Dean Richardson, whom she married on her graduation day, June 14, 1952. From 1954 to 1959, Mrs. Richardson worked as a commercial artist at Michigan Bell Telephone Co., in Detroit. She was a parishioner at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Grosse Pointe Woods for more than 30 years. She loved the arts and was a strong supporter of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Symphony, Interlochen, the Pewabic Society, the University of Michigan and the Oxbow School of Art in her beloved Saugatuck. Mrs. Richardson loved to cook, travel, and, with her family, shared a love for the outdoors. Mrs. Richardson is survived by her daughter, Ann E. Spica and her husband, James; son, John M. Richardson and his wife, Rita, and grandchildren, Charlotte Richardson and James, Helen, Emily, George and Joseph Spica. She was predeceased by her husband, Dean E. Richardson. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 20475 Sunningdale Park, Grosse Pointe Woods.
