Bernard Otto Buhlinger passed away on January 30, 2020 at the age of 93. A son of John "Hans" and Frieda (nee Schwarz), he was born on August 21, 1926 in Detroit. Bernard made his career as a tool and die maker. He spent his lifetime making dies, and 13 years as a template room supervisor until his retirement from Chrysler Corporation in 1989.
As a member of the Detroit Power Squadron, Bernard enjoyed promoting boating education with his friends and attending nautical conferences. He also spent time playing the slot machines in casinos. Bernard lent his voice to the Schwaebischer Maennechor and Rheingold Maennechor- he attended rehearsals every Friday for 67 years. Strong in his faith, Bernard attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Bernard was also an active member of Arion Verein and dominated the lanes in the Servite Bowling League.
Bernard grew up and lived in Detroit until 1976, when he moved to Grosse Pointe Woods. In his later years, Bernard became a resident of Lakeshore Senior Living Apartments in St. Clair Shores. Bernard was always a very positive man. When friends and family would ask how he was doing, Bernard would reply, "I'm doing the best I can with what I've got left."
Beloved husband of the late Dolores (nee Vissotski), joined in love for 60 years. Loving father of Kurt (Jane, his "favorite" daughter-in-law). Cherished "Gramps" of Sarah (Ryan) Harder and the late Brian. Proud great-grandfather of Abigail and Amelia. Dear brother of Henry, John, and his twin, the late Rita (George) Romas. Loved and treasured by many nieces and nephews, related and "unofficially" related. Through the meeting of their mothers in 1927, Bernard became the special friend of Leroy and Joyce Strey, and was considered part of their extended family. Bernard was a good man and friend to many.
A visitation for Bernard will take place on Thursday, February 6, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. Bernard will lie in state on Friday, February 7, from 11:30 am until time of funeral Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave., St. Clair Shores, 48080. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
