

Beverly A. Chretien, age 79, died peacefully on June 3, 2014 with her family at her side at the Walton Wood Lakeside Memory Care in Sterling Heights. Beverly was born on May 14, 1935 in Detroit, the daughter of Gustave and Anna James. She grew up on Detroit's eastside and attended St. Philip Neri School from first grade through graduation in 1953. In 1955 she married Robert Chretien also at St. Philip Neri and began their married life in St. Clair Shores. Beverly was a stay at home mother until her youngest was in school full time. A part time position at an optical company developed into a full time position through the years. For over 20 years, she worked as a dispensing optician at First Optometry, Dolan Optical and finally Rainbow Optical at Metropolitan Eye Center. Beverly's hobbies revolved around her family. She was a perfectionist in all she did, including gardening and cooking. Her grandchildren fondly remember Sunday spaghetti dinners at Nana's. And, she was an avid shopper. Her total involvement with her family did not leave much time for outside activities, but she was very involved and an active member at the Roose Vanker American Legion Auxiliary Post #286. Also a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, she served as an Eucharist Minister and was a Catechism teacher. Beverly is survived by her three children, Lori Nelson (David), Wendy Ouvry (Michael) and Michael (Keri); her ten grandchildren, Lesley, Brandon, Jared, Stephen, Alec, Brian, Lyndsey, Lauren, Hannah and Hailey; her great-grandson, Aiden; her brothers, Edward James (Virginia) and Robert James (Dorothy), her sister, Janis DeGennaro and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2007 and a brother-in-law, Anthony DeGennaro. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday evening. Her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until Mass begins at 9:00 a.m. Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin, pastor of St. Joan of Arc will officiate. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
