Mrs. Bobbie Nell Ragsdale was born to parents Eddie “Fanny” and Willie Luckett in Carthage, MS on December 29, 1937. She was the youngest of 13 children all of whom preceded her in death except for a very special sister-in-law, Ms. Sally Luckett. Bobbie’s siblings were - Eddie Lee (Josie Mae), Louvenia (Burgess), Jessie (Ezell), Clifton (Lucy), Rozellia (Johnny Clarence), Tommie, D.C. (Francis), Eardell (Dan), Robert (Gladys), Elizabeth (Clinton), Willie May (West), and Joe (Sally).
Bobbie Nell accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She relocated to Detroit, MI and because of her Christian experience, she united with Messiah Baptist Church in January 1957 under the pastorate of the late Rev. T. C. Simmons.
On August 3, 1957, Bobbie was united in holy matrimony to Mr. D. L. Ragsdale. Their union was blessed, and they were together for 61 wonderful years – until he made his transition. To that union four children were born – Marilyn (Robert), Duane (Suzette), Darice Gail, and Derrick (Deborah). As devoted Parents, They also raised their niece Dawn, and went on to raise three grandchildren – Tiara, Tinnelle, and Tesha as their own.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Bobbie worked as a Reservation Agent at Delta Airlines for 26 years – retiring in 1992. She was also a devoted and committed member of Messiah Baptist Church and regularly attended Sunday School, worship services and served faithfully on the Progressive Usher Board. She demonstrated Psalm 84:10b “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
Bobbie’s health began to decline and for the past six years or so she has been housed in an assisted living facility – “Time of Refreshing” in Southfield, MI. A special thank you to Ms. Dornita Elder, Owner/Director and her staff for the care they provided our mother. Bobbie Nell Ragsdale was called home to Glory August 1, 2022. She made her transition from her home in the presence of her son Derrick, his wife Deborah and Chaplin Gordon Steinke.
Those left to cherish her memory - two daughters, Marilyn and Darice; two sons, Duane and Derrick; twelve grandchildren, Dion, Myron, Britney, Devin, DeAnna, Adriel, Tiara, Tinnelle, Tesha, Casey, Chelsea, Shaun; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
