Born in Sparta, Wisconsin, and raised in LaCrosse, WI, she was the eldest of five children of Margaret and Joseph Munster. She graduated from St. Theresa’s College in Winona, Minnesota and remained deeply committed to education throughout her life.
Katy was married to Dr. Eugene Boyle, Chief of Anesthesiology at St. John’s Hospital for 35 years, until his passing in 2003. Together they raised five children: Eugene Boyle Jr., Terrence (Elizabeth) Boyle, Joseph (Linda) Boyle, Catherine Boyle, and Maureen (Jay) Herrmann M.D.
She was a devoted grandmother to Dr. Andrew (Elise) Herrmann, Erin (Jack) Rea, Michael Herrmann, Claire (Cooper) Hartman, Joey Boyle, Genevieve Boyle, Nicholas Boyle, Matthew Boyle and Catherine "Katy" Boyle. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Jack James (JJ), Ambrose, and Benet Rea, Lily Herrmann and Ava Catherine Rea, who preceded her in death.
In addition to raising her family, Katy first spent time working with underserved Hispanic communities in Southern California prior to her marriage. She continued this mission throughout her life by tutoring both children and adults as she strongly believed in the power of education to improve lives. Katy also volunteered at St. John's Hospital.
She was a gifted pianist and shared her love of music by playing for local parishes and the high school girls' choral group at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Grounded in Catholic faith from childhood, she maintained a strong connection to the Church throughout her life.
Katy led her life in humble dedication to God and Family. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, deep faith in God, dedication to her family and helping others. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and the values she passed down.
