Clarence Schram passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 22, 2014 at the age of 97. He was born on July 23, 1916 in Dayton, Ohio; son of Robert and Amelia (nee Schilling) Schram. He was the only boy growing up with his sisters Thelma, Marion, Roberta, and Naomi. Upon graduating from Grosse Pointe (South) High School, Clarence started working at a small screw machine company. He studied accounting for one year at Detroit Business Institute. He worked for Desoto, then Whizzer Motor, and then, after working for many years at R.L. Deppman and Company, he became co-owner at the company when Mr. Deppman decided to retire in 1971. In 1936 Clarence met Cora Emke at First English Lutheran Church. He proposed to her on October 30, 1939 and married on February 14 (Valentine's Day) in 1941. In 1942 Clarence enlisted in the Merchant Marines to help our country during WWII. Shortly after, Clarence and Cora began their family with the births of Robert, Carol, and Debbie. During their 73+ years of marriage, they lived on Wade St, Nottingham, and Bishop in Detroit. In 1974 they moved to their current home on Lakeville Lake. They loved living on "the Lake" enjoying precious moments watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play and swim. The Schrams loved to travel especially with Church sponsored trips. They owned several time shares and have enjoyed many cruises to places such as Hawaii, Germany, Alaska, Ireland, Europe, the Holy Land, and Spain. Clarence was a hard working man who was very crafty with tools. He could fix and build just about anything. He expanded his houses over the years to accommodate his growing family. He created three additions to their Lakeville house. He worked around the house until his health started to fail. At the age of 92, he was upset when a family member had to help him off of the roof while doing a repair. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. He will lie instate on Thursday at 10:00 am until the time of the funeral at 11:00 at First English Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Reverend Dr. Walter Schmidt will officiate. Clarence will be buried in the Emke family section of Romeo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Church's Organ Fund.
