January 12, 1928 – July 5th, 2023
Curtis J. Moseley, 95, of Harper Woods, MI passed away peacefully in Ascension St. John’s Hospital, Grosse Pointe, MI from injuries sustained in a fall. Curtis was married to Beverly Jean for 75 years, and they celebrated that fete with their immediate family on June 15, 2023. They are the proud parents of 5 boys (James C /Diana Lee Moseley, Troy, MI; Gregory S/Katherine Moseley, Troy MI; Michael J/Denise Moseley, Harper Woods, MI; John K/Marla Moseley, Sterling Heights, MI, and Dale P (Patrick)/ Suzanne Moseley, Macomb, MI. Proud grandparents of 10 and great grandparents of 21. Curtis was one of 8 children to Charles F. and Florence Moseley. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Charles F and Florence Moseley, son James C Moseley, and grandson Michael Jay Moseley. Curtis was also preceded in death by siblings: Charlotte Doonan, Marcella Malone, Charles “Bud” Moseley, Janet Likely, Mace “Lane” Moseley and Mary Johnson. Curtis was born in New Boston, IL and grew up in a small farming community in Viola, IL. He met his wife, Beverly, in high school and they were married on June 15, 1948. Curtis was an Illinois track star during his high school years.
Curtis was employed by Swift & Company (Sales and Plant Manager) where he resided in Illinois, Iowa, Ohio and finally Michigan, where he settled with family since 1961. Following Swift & Company, he worked for Grand Packing in Detroit, Basic Food, Inc, Lorraine, OH, and Michigan Veal and Lamb, Detroit. Curtis was widely known and greatly respected in the food and meat industry for 42 years.
Curtis and Beverly enjoyed camping with their 5 boys during the summer months, traveling to many midwestern locations and throughout Michigan. They were also members of the Coachmen Caravan Michigan Chapter, where he served as Chapter President. Upon his retirement, Curtis and Beverly enjoyed spending 26 winters in Florida. When returning home in the spring, he and Beverly loved spending quality time with the boys, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While in Harper Woods, they were members of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, Eastpointe, MI.
During his residency in Harper Woods, Curtis was greatly respected by neighbors and community. Reminiscing with them today, Curtis was a fatherly figure to many, valued and trusted as a true companion with a heart of gold. Many would drive by the house and marvel at the landscaping and meticulous yard, especially the floral retaining wall with flowers near the boulevard.
Curtis, being a connoisseur of fine meats and barbequing, shared that passion with his family and friends, while often entertaining the Coachmen Chapter with filet mignon as part of their Saturday night dinner. Curtis was also a practical jokester in his own way. One of the fondest memories in recent years would be when family would visit them during the holidays in Florida. We would go out to dinner and if the restaurant was serving pork chops (in any variety) – he would ask the waitress if they were “Black Angus Pork Chops”. Almost all of them would respond “I’m not sure and go to the kitchen to ask”. Many times, we could hear the roar and laughter from the kitchen staff………… and the waitress would come out and say “No”. Most would be enlightened to learn that Black Angus is a type of beef, not pork. To those in the crowd that knew the difference, they would play along and enjoy the laugh.
So many memories, treasured moments and accomplishments during his life. He always gave 100% whether it be as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, neighbor or in his professional endeavors. He was loved by all, cherished by many, and looked upon as one to emulate. He had the lasting quality that is hard to replace. Curtis will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. He was saddened by the passing of his eldest son, Jim, last November 2022. He held that memory until his last breath. We know Curtis is now in heaven and at peace, and has joined his son Jim, and grandson Mikey, in everlasting glory in Heaven.
