

David Drummond Litchfield Sr. Grosse Pointe Woods resident David Drummond Litchfield Sr., 78, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018. Born Aug. 20, 1940, in Portland, Maine, to George S. and Marjorie S. Litchfield, David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical/nuclear engineering in 1962 from Tufts University, and an MBA in international business in 1965 from Michigan State University. He began his career as an engineer with Taylor Instrument Co. in Rochester, N.Y., before moving to Eastman Kodak Co. In 1965, he moved to Grosse Pointe when he joined Ford Motor Company. He worked in various departments throughout the years, including: product planning, heavy truck sales and marketing, and dealer development until retirement in 1999. He later worked as general manager of Scherer Truck Equipment in Auburn Hills, and also worked as a consultant for MMS in Royal Oak. David was a 50-year member of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. Over the years he served as chairman of the endowment fund, elder, deacon, trustee, chairman of the board of trustees, usher, and on numerous church committees. David was also active in numerous organizations such as holding a trustee position with the Presbytery of Detroit; committee member of Ducks Unlimited-Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores chapter; president of the board of directors of Lost Lake Woods Club; member of the Lakeshore Optimist Club and Grosse Pointe Boat Club; past member of the Detroit Yacht Club; and, supporter of Bigelow Labs in East Boothbay, Maine. He enjoyed collecting antique guns and decoys, and was an avid car and truck enthusiast. Most of all, he was a proud grandfather. David is survived by his wife, Linda Larson Litchfield; daughter Amanda Litchfield Spacil (Michael Milan Spacil); son, David Drummond Litchfield Jr.; and, grandchildren Lucas David Spacil, Jacob Michael Spacil and Caleb Joseph Spacil. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Litchfield Coy. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms.
