Dave grew up in Grosse Pointe with a large family. He was the 3rd born in a family of seven children and had a wonderful childhood, with a deep love for sports. Dave began playing hockey at a young age and his coaches quickly saw he had unwavering talent on the ice. Dave had many friends growing up. He enjoyed going to concerts, a good home cooked meal with family and being outdoors in all the Michigan seasons.
The Maxwell family moved to Colorado when Dave was in high school. The struggles of a new school and home was tough, but hockey quickly made Dave feel right at home. He loved skiing and all things Colorado. Dave had ski passes to many mountains, took pleasure in hiking, backpacking and camping; even after getting stuck in a snowstorm in the middle of June. Though he cherished the mountains out west, Michigan always had his heart.
Dave was a family man, a respected supervisor at Comcast, and a complete “stud†in looks and stature. His whole life was centered on his family and being present and committed to those he loved. Coming from a sports family he took every opportunity to share his love of athletics with his girls. He built hockey rinks every winter, coached his daughter in softball & basketball, taught them how to swing a golf club, and how to throw a ball. Most importantly he taught them about the value of love.
He was a conversationalist, always ready to ask questions and find out more. He was genuine and honest, but also had a goofy and silly side. He never took himself or anyone else too seriously. At the end of the day, he was true blue. Dave was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, joining the military in 1980 under the Raegan Administration. He was so proud to be a veteran and was truly honored to serve his country that he loved. He also spent decades as a supervisor for Comcast Xfinity, where he was known as a fair, straightforward leader that was respected. His colleagues always appreciated his honesty and leadership style that was expressed by example.
Dave is survived by his daughters Jessica (Jeffrey) Bruss, Carly Maxwell, and Emily Maxwell. Former spouse and friend for 37 years of Lynn Maxwell. Dearest grandfather of Jackson and Brody Bruss. Beloved brother of Doug (Margaret) Maxwell, Debbie (Dean) Alan, Dale Maxwell, Diane (Jason) Fisher, Dean (Missy) Maxwell, and Danny Maxwell. Dave is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and co-workers.
