Don was born in Romeo, where he lived as a child. He was a proud alumnus of Michigan State University. Following his graduation from MSU in 1967, Don worked as a public safety officer until 2001, but stayed on as a dispatcher for the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department until he retired after 48 years of service. Following his retirement, Don volunteered at Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe until COVID-19 in 2020.
Aside from volunteering, Don enjoyed golfing Wednesdays with his golf league, Friday nights at Irish Coffee Bar & Grill with many friends and Detroit sports, especially the Detroit Lions.
Until his hospitalization, Don spent summers and weekends with his great-grandniece, Lively Bandy, with whom he frequented Pier Park in Grosse Pointe Farms and enjoyed steak dinners at Salvatore Scallopini Italian.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Susan; his sister, Mary; children, Barbara (Roger), Deborah (Brett) and Kevin; grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, Heather, Amy and Aaron; great-grandson, Oliver; nephews, Shaun (Ameera) and Jason (Victoria); and great-grandnieces, Lively and Summer.
Visitation will occur from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
