

Donald Robert Scherf, age 84 of Warren, passed away September 26, 2016. He was born in Detroit on October 15, 1931; the son of William Emil and Rose Dorothy Scherf. Donald honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from January 1952 until January 1956. He worked in sonar submarine detection offshore during the Korean War. Donald was a hard worker and following his service, he held a longtime and dedicated career in the Communications Radio Bureau for the Detroit Police Department for 30 years. Concurrently, he also owned and operated Champion Electric for many years. He even worked as an electrician after his retirement. He enjoyed tinkering. Beloved husband of the late Nancy. Loving father of Deborah Charest, Terry (Frank) Cordova and Cheryl (John) Maday. Treasured grandfather of Brian, Danielle, Wendy, Kelly (Kevin) and Kyle. Proud great-grandfather of Uriah. Dear brother of the late Charles. Donald's family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 28th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13-1/2 Mile), Warren. A funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 29th at 12-Noon at the funeral home. A committal service with military honors will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Cross.
