Elsa Wachner

Elsa Wachner of Shelby Township died Monday, March 30, 2020 at the age of 98 years. Elsa was born July 26, 1921, in Transylvania, Romania, daughter of Ernest and Emma (nee Graef) Wachner. Elsa married Edward Wachner in Romania in July, 1941. In 1944, Elsa and her family fled Romania to Austria. They immigrated to Detroit, Michigan in 1955 and later joined the Saxon Club and became members of the St. Peters Lutheran Church. Elsa was a homemaker who enjoyed oil painting, baking, and being with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Surviving is her daughter Liane (Helmut) Egger of Shelby Township. Grandchildren Christine (Christopher) Pesta, Michelle Egger, Karin Cusimano; great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Victoria Pesta, Arianna and Alexa Cusimano. One sister Gerda Steiner of Austria and Ernst (Hannelore) Wachner of Warren, Michigan. Elsa was predeceased by her husband Edward, her sisters Emmi Roth and Elfriede Wermescher of Austria.

A service of praise and thanksgiving will take place Friday, April 3, 2020, at 12 noon at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 11423 Chicago Road, Warren, Michigan, with Pastor Gerry Udel officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.
