We were very saddened to hear that Ernie had passed away and sorry that that we didn't know sooner. He was the very kindest, gentle, man who will be missed by so many. The comfort for those left behind is that we are sure that Ernie has kissed the world goodbye and is laughing on GLORY side.

I am so happy that I was a part of Ernie`s life. Two years ago I was un-employed , Fr Gene ( a mutual friend) told me he had a friend ho needed someone to clean his house. I went and cleaned his home every two weeks , it was not long that he became a huge part of my life. I really loved that man , there was just "something" about Ernie ! He always worried about me even though he had his own health issues. So Ernie , I just want to thank you for being so special to me ! Rest in peace my dear pal ! And please keep a place open for all of who loved you !

I remember Ernie from working with him at IRS. He was the life and foundation of our work group in the Detroit office. I fondly remember the many good times we had at work and events after work. As I look back at the many photos of Ernie's playful and serious sides, I will treasure having known him. My condolences to the Rinaldi Family.

Ernie was more than just a "neighbor" to us. He was part of our family from the first time we met in 1981. That first " Hi, I'm Ernie" was the beginning of a 31 year old friendship. From almost daily afternoon coffee and many Xmas breakfasts and holiday dinners many memories were made. He will be missed by our entire family. Lakeview St. will never be the same.

I worked with Ernie for many years at the IRS. He was always the life of the party, even when we traveled to the Cincinnati Service Center where he was popular with the employees there. He will be sadly missed, but his memories will always remain. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace dear friend.

One of my favorite memories of Ernie occurred when a group of us parishioners went to a celebration for Fr. Mitchell, our former pastor. Ernie had ridden to the event with Sr. Margaret who at that time was on staff at SJA. Sr. Margaret was a very nice but also very proper, no nonsense Sister of St. Joseph. She was treated with great respect and few were willing to cross her. Ernie was acting as his usual rambunctious self at the festivities. In a effort to maintain decorum Sr. Margaret repeatedly tried to quiet Ernie. "Ernie... Ernie..." she began gently. When this didn't help she began tugging at his arm and continued more forcefully, "Ernie! Ernie!" Ernie, in his usual uninhibited way turned and loudly addressed her: "Hey babe, if you want to be my date, you better dummy up and don't try to hush me!" We sat opened mouthed, shocked at his flippant reply to such a proper, sedate woman, a sister none the less . But as we watched aghast, we saw Sr. Margaret pause, then break into a big smile and begin laughing! Only Ernie could get away with this as he did with so many of his other jovial, straight forward remarks. Ernie brought a lot of humor to the world and we are glad to have been able to share in it, even in a small way.

I remember Earnie from the time I first joined the IRS in 1967. He was always upbeat, always with a kind word and a smile for everyone. I am saddened by his passing.

I have such fond memories of Ernie at the IRS and afterwards in retirement. He always made me feel welcome and he could tell a story like nobody else.

To the Rinaldi family, please accept my sincere condolence. Words cannot express the pain we feel when we lose our dear loved ones. May you find comfort thru the Word of God. "He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces..."-Isaiah 25:8.
