

Francis Maynard Scripter, age 98, longtime resident of Warren and Center Line and recently of Clinton Township, Michigan, died January 11, 2015 at Henry Ford Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1916 in Arcade, New York and was son of the late Maynard and Elizabeth (Kibler) Scripter of Holland, New York. On June 26, 1940 he married Charlotte Marie Ditz who predeceased him on March 1, 2012. In 1935 Scrip graduated from Arcade High School in New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) in Ypsilanti in 1939. In 1954 Scrip received a Master of Education degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Scrip began his career in 1939 as a coach and principal at Warren High School. In 1942 he transferred to Center Line Public Schools where he was a physical education teacher, coach, athletic director and later Assistant Superintendent. Because of his many successes in sports he was selected to be in the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame. Scrip was the second President of the Macomb School Business Officials. He was on the Warren Symphony Board (now called Motor City Symphony), Warren Y.M.C. A. Board and helped with other groups in the Warren area. In 1993 and 1994 Scrip was named in Who's Who and in the Leading American Executive. He was instrumental in setting up endowment funds for both the Motor City Symphony and the Detroit Concert Choir. Along with his civic group involvement, Scrip worked at the Mutual of New York Insurance Company. Later in his life he opened Scripter & Associates, Inc. specializing in financial planning. Scrip is survived by his three daughters, Suzanne Harris of Sterling Heights, Judith Evans of Memphis, MI and Carol (Allen) Dowty of Troy. Grandchildren-Timothy (Carla) Harris of Warren, Jeffrey (Karyn) Faber of Lake Orion, Debra Harris of Pontiac, Cathy (Chris) Hanson of Shelby, Brian Dowty and Erin (Jeff) Johnson of Elliott City, MD, Andrew (Delinda) Faber of Reedsburg, WI, Brandon Dowty of Sterling Heights and step-grandson Bill Faber of Winter Park, Florida. 14 great grandchildren: Aidan, Olivia, Amaya, Cameron, Leighton, Kaitlyn, Holly, Dorian and Zo Faber; Emma, Lindsay and Nathan Hanson; Joey Harris and Ava Johnson; sister Kathryn Brien and sister-in-law Barbara Scripter. Visitation is Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Friday, January 16, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a funeral service on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road at Masonic, Warren. Entombment will be on Monday at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Motor City Symphony Endowment Fund, Detroit Concert Choir Endowment Fund or the Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church.
