My Auntie Gaye was always a glamorous movie star to me. She could light up a room with her smile and laughter. Always thoughtful, caring, and loving. Everything she did she did in style. From how she dressed to her sparkly diamonds she loved to wear it was always a party and she was the life of it.  My childhood memories of Aunt Gaye were our family gatherings. Hot lazy summer days spent at Lake Saint Clare with aunts, uncles, and a gang of cousins.  Aunt Gaye and Uncle Bruce would host a come one come all picnic for family and friends at the lake. Even a family friend who came playing the bagpipes! The cousins would all clammer in line at the dock eating huge slices of ice cold watermelon that Aunt Rena would cut and pass out to keep cool waiting for a turn on the speed boat. With Aunt Gaye steering the boat and Uncle Bruce on waterskis Aunt Gaye giving us lessons on how to waterski when it came our turn. No matter how long it took she made sure we all got a turn. I will always remember those sun kissed days as the best part of my summer vacations.  Aunt Gaye and Uncle Bruce had a good life together until Uncle Bruce passed away from a long term illness. But Aunt Gaye was very fortunate to find another loving companion to share her later years with, Uncle Victor. They married and had a new set of adventures to live.  Aunt Gaye taught me many life lessons over the years how to enjoy life and add a little sparkle to each day. She once whispered in my ear at a family Christmas party when I was 15 years old something I never forgot and remember everyday. She told me to always wear lipstick even if that’s all the makeup I wore because no matter what the day held it would make me feel beautiful and happy. I will miss you Aunt Gaye and I love you. Thank you for all the sweet loving memories you gave to all of us family and friends. I remember Aunt Gay as a very young girl when my Minnesota family went to visit the Aunts, Uncles and cousins in Detroit. She was so fun! She doted on us constantly. I remember how beautiful and pulled together she was but still could get down to our level and play. We went to picnics at the park with her and she would show us the work she was doing on her renovations. At Christmas we couldn't wait to open a box of special surprises from her. Love you always!  Mom loved her family and Kentucky roots so much. She loved to tell stories about growing up. She loved her sister Gay and looked up to her. I wish Mom could have seen her in recent years but Mom's health does not allow travel.

My Aunt Gay was a stunningly beautiful woman. From a humble beginning on the farm in Kentucky, she navigated her life to personal and professional success. At a very tender age, Gay survived the loss of her 39-year old mother and 9 year-old twin sister, Adris. Both had succumbed to fever brought to the region by the flooding of rural Kentucky in 1939. After leaving Kentucky, she dutifully help support her widowed elderly father and the remaining children still living on the farm by sending checks for groceries to "Tosh's" General Store, the local grocery, and sending boxed goodies to the kids from "Up North". Gay was an extraordinary business woman at a time long before the "Woman's Movement". Gay was an entrepreneur, launching,owning and managing her own beauty salon for several years. In addition, Gay worked shoulder to shoulder with her her first husband, Bruce, in their prosperous meat deli located at the famous Eastern Market in Detroit, Michigan. She also bought and sold real estate, specializing in renovating properties that improved the market value of Detroit neighborhoods. Wow! Aunt Gay was and is one of my personal heroes! What a lovely, smart and bright lady! I will always look up to you and work to emulate your grace and personal courage. Your, niece- Myrrhl's girl- Rene Strohecker Thompson

"Gaye" If ever there was a person who loved her life it was Gaye. She was a sister then mother to all of her younger sisters after her mother and her twin sister Adris passed in 1937. "Come in" She would say. How about " Somethin to eat?" She didn't hear your no - it was out with the goat cheese, the cabbage rolls, the fresh bread, the ham, turkey and pies. Enough for an army, but it was all just for you. She had a way of looking into your heart so that you felt you were singled out for extra large doses of love and attention. When you spoke with her, you knew you were being heard. You need something? Gaye would get it. Life seem tough? Gaye would cheer you up. Honestly extending herself in love and friendship beyond what anyone could hope for or imagine possible. In my minds eye I can see you holding your twin sisters hand running all over heaven with mother and dad, Ben, Jim, Bob and Rena. My sister Gaye
