

George E. Elliott was born in Candor, New York on January 12, 1916 the son of Edward and Lunetta Elliott. Mr. Elliott passed away on Friday November 18 with his family at his side. Mr. Elliott was 100 years old. As a young man George served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in northern Michigan. He married Irma Mohr in 1945 and they shared 69 years of marital bliss until Irma's death in 2015. Together they raised one daughter, Joyce. George worked as a carpenter and was always the foreman on the job. He was active in the carpenters union, was a life-time member of the local, national and international union. As such on occasion he was called to testify before Congress. He was active in his church, St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Eastpointe. He enjoyed playing cards especially Rummy and Pinochle. Spending time with and doting on his granddaughters was a favorite activity. He would attend all of their sporting events. Early on George enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law and taught several nephews how to hunt. George is survived by his dear daughter Joyce (Richard) Dunbar and his loving granddaughters Jennifer Dunbar, Colleen Dunbar Leyanna (Joshua) and Natalia Tiemann (Ryan), also his great-grandchildren Teagan, Madi, Kiley, Kenna, Griffin and Lennon. His beloved Irma and his parents Edward and Lunetta predecease him. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 am until time of funeral service 11:00 am at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 23801 Kelly Road, Eastpointe, MI 48021. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the church.
