George E. Green, age 80 died peacefully at St. John Hospital in Detroit on December 11, 2008. George was employed for 15 years at the Grosse Pointe Farms Fire Department and then for 17 years at the Grosse Pointe Public Schools as an engineer, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Velma, step-children Ron Champine, Renee Whitefield (Larry) and Michele Backus (Arthur); ten step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Green and his sister, Dorothy Jefferson. Visitation will be from 5-10 pm Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 pm Friday officiated by Rev. Andre Carr, chaplain of St. John Hospice. Interment with military honors will be at the Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. The family has suggested memorials may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, P. O. Box 214182; Auburn Hills, MI 48321-4182.
