

Henry M. Marchand, age 89, died peacefully on October 2, 2012 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. Henry was born on October 12, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Frank and Godlieve Marchand. He graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1940 and served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer from 1943 through 1945. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy and received his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. Mr. Marchand was a long time public safety officer in Grosse Pointe Woods and retired in 1977 as Director of Public Safety. He continued his career at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe Farms and retired in 1987 as their Director of Security. Henry loved everything about the water including boating, fishing and spending time at his winter home in Melbourne, Florida. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club, Roose Vanker Post 286, American Legion in St. Clair Shores, the VFW 1146 Bruce Post in St. Clair Shores, the Wayne County Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and the Belgian American Club. Mr. Marchard is survived by his wife of 29 years, Maryanne; stepchildren, James Blondell (Mary) and Mary Cesulski (Paul); grandchildren, Annabella, Jimmy and Bridgett; and siblings Phyllis Cunningham, Doris Sorenson and Janis Williams. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. His body will lie instate at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms from 11:30 a.m. Saturday until mass begins at 12 noon. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society, 296 Chalfonte, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236.
