

James George Sergeant Sr. was born on Friday, September 26, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised by two wonderful parents, George and Marion Sergeant. He died on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 with family by his side at the age of 94 years old. James started working during the great depression for his family at the age of 12. He was driving the tow truck for the local collision shop and then transitioned into body work. At the age of 17 years old, he joined the US Navy and later became a part of the Naval Combat Demolition Units, the predecessor to the Navy Seals. During his four years in the US Navy, he was injured twice. After the US Navy, he went back to work for the collision shop where an executive from Fisher Body noticed his work. After many years of work, James retired as the last employee of Fisher Body after he personally coordinated the departmental mergers of Fisher Body into General Motors. Beloved husband of the late Mary for over 60 years. Loving father of James Sergeant Jr. (Sandra) and the late Pamela Detmer (Dennis). Cherished grandfather of Colleen, David, Karen, Stacy, Douglas, and James III. Great-grandfather of 8. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 11:00 am until Prayers at 1:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road at Masonic, Warren. Interment will be held immediately afterwards at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorial contributions to Vets Returning Home would be appreciated.
