James G. Winfield Former Grosse Pointe Farms resident James G. Winfield, 49, died at his Detroit home Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, after a long illness. He was born April 14, 1961, and graduated from Grosse Pointe South High School in 1979 after which he attended Detroit Engineering Institute. He then worked as a lithographer at North American Graphics for many years until his death. Mr. Winfield was the beloved son of Virgil and Louise Winfield of Grosse Pointe Farms and the dear brother of Lanny (Kathleen) Austin. He was also the cherished uncle of Steve Austin and Kelly (Allan) Daniels, great uncle of Michael and Leah, and fondly remembered by special friend, Judy McClinchey. His hobbies included motorcycling, photography, Detroit history, camping, fishing and antiquing at estate sales. Family and friends will especially miss Mr. Winfield's personal brand of humor that was often colored by a semi-gruff demeanor, only to be exceeded by his exceptional kindness. A memorial gathering will take place 1:30 pm Friday September 24 followed by a memorial service 2 pm at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236. Donations may be made to The Henry Ford Transplant Institute, Henry Ford Health System, One Ford Place, Suite 5A, Detroit, MI 48202 or St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church music fund, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236.
