Janet Virginia Edwards

Janet Virginia Edwards, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 with family by her side. She was 83 years old. She was born on July 28, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the daughter of Thelma Harriman and James Lowers. After her parents divorce in 1940, Janet went to live with her great-great-Aunt Suzie and Uncle Bill near Snover, Michigan. She attended Marlette High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1951. She was very active in school, playing several instruments in the band and being a majorette. After graduation she moved to Detroit to live with her mother in 1951. She was employed by General Motors and worked in Payroll-Bonuses division and GM Photographic as secretary to the Assistant Director. While working at General Motors she met David Edwards and they were married in 1956. They had two wonderful children, a son Scott and a daughter Kathryn. Once both of her children were in school, Janet began working for the Warren Woods Public Schools. She was an elementary school secretary for six years and High School Principal secretary for the last 22 years. She retired in 1994. She was also involved in the schools as a class advisor, along with her husband. Janet was a member of Faith United Church of Christ. She was a church school teacher, womens club president, and church choir member. She had a lovely alto voice and shared that as a member of the GM Employees Chorus for 17 years. She met many great people during those years. Beside her love for singing, she enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean, Mexico City, Europe, England, Scandinavia and many golf courses. In her spare time she was often seen decorating or going bowling while being an accomplished seamstress. Summer vacations at White Birch Lodge in Elk Rapids, Michigan was always the highlight of her summer off from the school district. Some of her favorite past time activities included live theatre and musicals and spending time with family members and friends. The best times of her life included those spent with her husband while spending time with their granddaughters and attending their granddaughters activities. Her "girls" were a driving force in later years. She was very proud of the young women they have become and was always willing to talk about them when prompted. Janet is the beloved wife of Dave for 61 years; loving mother of Scott (Sally) Edwards and Kathryn Tye (Bob) Prochaska; cherished grandmother of Nicole (Andrew) Garza, Rachel (Brian) Snow, and Morgan Zalewski; great-grandmother of Luke; and sister of Dorothy "Lonnie" Anderson. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road at Masonic, Warren.
