Jesse C. Rose

Jesse C. Rose, born in Henry County, TN, went to be with his Lord at 4:30 pm on June 22, 2016 at the age of 89. He had been living with the debilitating effects of the stroke he suffered over 2 1/2 years ago, but succumbed to pneumonia and other complications at St. John's Hospital in Detroit. His wife of 68 years, Anne, cared for him at home every day for all that time, in a beautiful example of the love and devotion they shared until the moment they parted on June 22. Together, they raised two beloved daughters; Cheryl (Gary) Dettloff and Tammy (Rex) Roy, and shared the joys of 4 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren. A veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army Air Corps, Jess founded a chain of award-winning automotive service stations and managed properties in both Michigan and Kentucky, but he always recognized the family he built and the faith in Christ he practiced to be his greatest blessings and accomplishments. Baptized in the Tennessee River as a believing youth, Jess came to Detroit as a teenager. After the war, he married the love of his life, began to raise his family and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church (now Grace Community Church) where he was an active member over 6 decades, starting his service as a bus minister and going on to serve for years on the Stewardship Team and as Church Trustee. After retirement, Jess enjoyed worshiping at Woodside Bible Church with his children, grandkids and great-grandkids. Whenever he could, he would get back "home" to Murray, KY, where he joined First Baptist of Murray as an active member of his Sunday School class, managed his business and real estate holdings and gardened away at one of the most beautiful homes in Western KY. Jess' family invites all friends to meet at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods at 3pm Saturday afternoon, June 25. Services begin at 3pm, with visitation to follow till 7pm. Burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in Murray.
